Combined Guide to the EU

In the recent years, China’s outbound travel market has been skyrocketing. In 2014, the number of border crossings has surpassed 110 million and the EU is also experiencing a growing influx of Chinese travelers. Trends are changing fast in China’s rapidly maturing travel market and travelers are becoming more educated and extremely tech savvy.  This is especially true for the increasingly sophisticated Chinese youth, who sees travel as a way of self expression and seeks authentic experiences. The new generation of Chinese travelers are more willing to travel independently and like to rely on official online information sources, whether the purpose of the journey is leisure, study or work related.

Serving the needs of this ever more valuable audience, The EU Delegation in China commissioned Flow to design and develop a mobile optimized online information hub for young Chinese, who want to travel, study or work in Europe. To build this unique one-stop-shop information centre, Flow had to closely collaborate with all the 28 EU member countries, which was a challenging and exciting experience for our project team.

The purpose of the site is to deliver reliable and useful information about each member state for the young Chinese in a form that fits the way information is consumed by this audience. Keeping this in mind during the design and front end development process, our team put extra emphasis on creating an outstanding mobile user experience.

The website has four main sections culture, job opportunities, education and travel. Noteworthy features are the cultural calendar and the interactive map where visitors can learn about the member states and the events they organise. The content of the platform can updated by each country independently and ambassadors can add more personal tips regarding their country.

The release of the platform was announced during the press briefing on the outcome of the 17th EU-China Summit that took place in Brussels, in presence of HE Hans-Dietmar Schweisgut, Ambassador of the European Union to China.
